Kay LaVonne Bitner, 90, of Ottumwa, died at 2:05 p.m., June 25, 2026 at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born May 1, 1936 in Ottumwa to Russell F. and Hazel V. Doll Williamson. She married Richard Bitner May 15, 1955 and he preceded her in death September 30, 2001.
A 1954 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Kay had worked in banking for nearly 40 years and retired in 1999 as Vice President of U.S. Bank.
She had attended Davis Street Christian Church and was a member of Faith Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School.
Kay was president of the Ottumwa Women’s Club for several years and served 4 years as president of P.E.O Chapter 6. She also belonged to Century Book Club.
Kay enjoyed puzzles, reading, flowers and watching sports. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, St. Louis Cardinals, Indiana Fever and Kansas City Chiefs. She loved spending time with family, especially all of her grandchildren.
Surviving are 2 sons, Tim (Lisa) Bitner of Monroe, IA, Doug (Brenda) Bitner of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Melissa Martin, Brandon (Stephanie) Bitner, Hope (Jan) Rosenberg, India Ross and Kyleigh (Kaleb) Durflinger; 3 great grandchildren, Cooper, Remi Jo and Wheeler and 1 on the way; a brother, Dr. Tom (Jan) Williamson of Bloomfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Don Williamson.
Graveside memorial services and inurnment will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30th, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery with Pastor Phil Griffith officiating. The family will be present to greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Reece Funeral Home.
