Betty June Ostrander, 99, of Eldon died August 2, 2026, at Vista Woods (Accura) Care Center in Ottumwa. Services
celebrating her life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Eldon Methodist Church in
Eldon, IA with Pastor Dave Peterson and Rev. Bendi Burgin officiating. Burial will be in the Eldon Cemetery
immediately following the service. Visitation will begin at noon on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the Eldon
Methodist Church with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions
in Betty’s honor may be directed to Eldon Methodist Church or to Eldon Senior Meals and may be mailed to P.O.

Betty June Ostrander was born January 6, 1927, at the Schiller Family home in rural Donnellson, IA to Christopher
and Katherine (Ott) Schiller. She was raised near Donnellson and attended rural school completing the eighth
grade.


Betty moved to Ottumwa in 1948 to attend beauty School. There she met Richard “Gene” Ostrander. On June 4,
1950, the two were married at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death in
1996.


They moved to Eldon in 1952 where they farmed, grew produce: ie tomatoes, cabbage, sweet corn, etc. and
owned and operated the Ostrander Flower Shop and Greenhouse. After retiring from the greenhouse Betty
worked at O Hara Hardware.


Betty was a member of Eldon United Methodist Church, Chapter CG P.E.O., Chapter l T.T.T., Chatter Club, Eldon
Lioness Club, and served as Agriculture Superintendent for the Wapello County Fair.


Betty was a wonderful seamstress making many clothes when her kids were little. Later on, she hand sewed many
quilts, gifting family with her treasurers. As a florist she arranged many brides’ wedding flowers and flowers for
every holiday occasion. Betty hosted a coffee group every Wednesday at her church for many years. You could find
her baked goods at every church dinner or bake sale.


Survivors include two sons, Steve (Kristy) Ostrander and Kim (Melissa) Ostrander, both of Eldon, two daughters,
Diana Harness (Donald) of Eldon and Kerry Ostrander (Rick Vaslic) of Huntington Beach, CA., grandchildren, David
(Louisa) Harness, Denice Harness, Krystle (Michael J Dugan) Kildow, Kody (Lee Mills) Ostrander, Leea (Trevor) Drish,
Drew (Makenzie) Ostrander, Brinlee (Blaine Bryant) Ostrander and 14 great grandchildren. And 3 great-great
grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband Richard “Gene”, brothers Leo and Oscar Schiller, sisters
Thelma Holmes, Irene Martin, and Sadie Christensen.
