National corn and soybean condition ratings declined slightly over the past week. Development conditions were generally favorable in much of the Midwest and Plains, and while this week’s heat could cause some stress, it would be welcome in some excessively wet growing areas in the Eastern Corn Belt.
The USDA says 67% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent shape, down 1% on the week, with 9% of the crop silking, compared to the five-year average of 6%.
65% of soybeans are good to excellent, a dip of 1%, with 96% emerged, 19% blooming, and 4% at the pod setting stage, all ahead of average.
48% of U.S. winter wheat is harvested, faster than most recent years, with 26% of the crop called good to excellent, unchanged from a week ago.
59% of spring wheat is rated good to excellent, an improvement of 5%, with 32% headed.
48% of cotton is seen as good to excellent, a drop of 5%, while development is near normal with 97% planted, 37% squaring, and 9% setting bolls.
74% of rice is in good to excellent condition, rising 3%, and 19% has headed.
52% of sorghum is reported as good to excellent, 1% higher, and 91% is planted with 19% headed.
34% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are good to excellent, 1% more than the previous week.
