An Ottumwa man faces numerous charges after a traffic stop last month in Oskaloosa.
Shelby Majors, 35, was charged with the following:
- Controlled substance violation (Class B felony)
- Dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon (Class D felony)
- Possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense (Class D felony)
- Failure to affix drug tax stamp (Class D felony)
- Person ineligible to carry dangerous weapons (serious misdemeanor)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor)
- Violation of no contact/protective order (simple misdemeanor)
On the night of July 28th, an officer from the Oskaloosa Police Department says a 2006 Honda Accord driven by Majors was driving erratically on the 500 block of Highway 432.
After performing a traffic stop, court records say a K-9 unit conducted a free air sniff around the vehicle and alerted the officer to the presence of narcotics. While searching the vehicle, officers allegedly found 48.2 grams of a crystal-like substance that was later determined to be methamphetamine, a digital scale with residue, smoking devices, multiple baggies, and other drug-related items. Additionally, authorities allegedly discovered a brown case that contained a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition.
According to court records, Majors is a convicted felon and has a protective order filed against him. Both statuses make him ineligible to possess a firearm, according to the law.
Majors was arrested and transported to the Mahaska County Jail and is being held on a $41,000 bond.
Majors has a preliminary hearing scheduled for August 7th.
