Severe Storm Alert: Iowa Counties Under Watch Until 1 AM CDT

The National Weather Service has issued an extension for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 205, which will remain in effect until 1 AM CDT on Saturday. This watch covers several counties across Iowa, including:

Central Iowa

  • Poweshiek County

South Central Iowa

  • Clarke County
  • Lucas County
  • Mahaska County
  • Marion County
  • Monroe County

Southeast Iowa

  • Wapello County

Affected Cities:

Residents in the following cities should be on alert: Albia, Chariton, Grinnell, Knoxville, Osceola, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, and Pella.

Primary Threats:

  • Damaging Winds: Expect scattered damaging winds, with gusts potentially reaching up to 80 mph.
  • Large Hail: There’s a likelihood of scattered large hail, with some hailstones possibly exceeding 3.5 inches in diameter.
  • Tornadoes: The possibility of one or two tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
