An inmate at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville died Sunday morning, according to the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Ronald Dale Thornton, 54, was pronounced dead at 10:55 a.m. on May 24, 2026.
Thornton had been serving a sentence for crimes committed in Polk County. Records show his incarceration began on Nov. 6, 2025.
The Iowa Department of Corrections has not released additional details regarding the cause of death.
