The boat launch and North Shore Trail at Indian Lake Park are temporarily closed as of Thursday, May 14th, while crews work through a construction and improvement project expected to take approximately one to two weeks. Park officials are targeting completion by Strawberry Festival weekend so that campers, visitors, and the broader community can enjoy the upgrades throughout the summer season.
The project is made possible by an Iowa DNR REAP Grant and represents a significant investment in the future of the park. When complete, visitors can expect a safer and more stable trail, better accessibility for bank fishing, new fishing habitats along the shoreline, and an overall more beautiful and usable North Shore area.
In the meantime, all automotive and boat traffic in the North Shore area must cease for the duration of construction. The beach will remain open — swimmers and visitors are welcome to walk down on weekends — but no vehicles will be permitted to drive to the area at any point during the project. The main trail will stay open for hiking as well. It is only the North Shore that is affected.
Park officials recognized that the timing creates an inconvenience for Memorial Day weekend boaters and expressed genuine appreciation for the community’s patience.
