Fairfield is gearing up for a community parade on the evening of July 2nd to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, and organizers are calling on the entire community to get involved in what promises to be one of the most memorable celebrations the city has seen in years.
The parade kicks off at 6:00 p.m., with participants lining up at Fairfield High School prior to the start. The route will follow the same path as the annual Kiwanis Kids Day Parade, making it familiar and easy to navigate for both participants and spectators.
This year’s theme — “Celebrating 250 Years of America” — invites bold creativity and full community participation. Organizers are especially encouraging church groups, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, dance studios, cheer teams, school groups, athletic teams, civic organizations, and local businesses to take part. Whether that means building a float, decorating a trailer, marching as a group, or simply showing up in patriotic spirit, there is a place for everyone. Prizes will be awarded for the best floats, so organizers are encouraging groups to start planning now.
A standout addition this year is the Independence Day Parade Bike Brigade, hosted in partnership with the Fairfield Public Library. From 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., the library will host a decorating station in the high school parking lot where participants can deck out bikes, strollers, wagons, and other wheeled contraptions with streamers, ribbons, and festive decorations before rolling together as a unified group in the parade. The Bike Brigade is open to all ages. Community members are encouraged to donate craft supplies and decorations to the library ahead of time to help make the decorating station a success.
Following the parade, the celebration moves to Central Park, where music and ice cream will be waiting for families and friends to gather and enjoy the evening together.
Chamber Board President Ryan Swanson said the goal is to create something the whole community will carry with them. “We want this to be one of those community moments everyone remembers — where every group, every organization, and every family feels like they are part of something bigger,” Swanson said.
