A warrant arrest in Ottumwa led to a felony drug charge after officers allegedly discovered a small amount of marijuana during the incident.
On May 12 at approximately 12:21 a.m., the Ottumwa Police Department was dispatched to the 1000 block of East Mary Street to serve a valid arrest warrant.
According to court documents, 53-year-old Olen Brown of Batavia was taken into custody upon officers’ arrival.
The criminal complaint states Brown allegedly handed officers the tip of a rubber glove containing a green leafy substance consistent with marijuana. The substance reportedly weighed approximately 0.3 grams.
Court records indicate Brown has three prior drug-related convictions, including one non-marijuana-related conviction.
Brown is currently being held in the Wapello County Jail on a $5,000 cash/surety bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 21.
Brown is charged with possession of a controlled substance — third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony.
