United Way of Wapello County invites community members, businesses, and organizations to come together for its annual Day of Caring on
Wednesday, May 6, 2026—a county-wide day of service dedicated to strengthening our community through volunteerism.
Day of Caring is United Way’s largest volunteer event of the year, mobilizing teams across Wapello County to complete meaningful projects that support local nonprofits, schools, and community spaces. Volunteers will spend the day painting, planting, organizing, cleaning, and completing hands-on projects that make an immediate and lasting impact.
“Day of Caring is about showing what’s possible when our community comes together,” said Allison Patzner, Community Engagement Director of United Way of Wapello County. “Every project completed and every hour volunteered helps create a stronger,
more connected Wapello County.”
The day will begin with a volunteer check-in and breakfast at the United Way office, followed by teams heading out to project sites across the community. Participation is flexible—volunteers can join individually or as part of a team, and projects are designed for all skill levels.
In addition to traditional service projects, this year’s Day of Caring includes
flexible opportunities such as:
Donating blood during the ImpactLife Blood Drive (May 4–9)
Supporting food access through the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive (May 9)
Assisting with community garden preparation and neighborhood clean-up efforts
Local nonprofits and organizations are encouraged to submit project requests, while businesses and groups are invited to form volunteer teams.
