Mahaska Health is proud to announce expanded access to neurological care through a new partnership with Eagle Telemedicine.
Through this technology, Mahaska Health providers can quickly consult with neurologists for patients experiencing neurological emergencies like suspected strokes, helping patients receive expert evaluation and treatment sooner, while reducing unnecessary transfers to larger medical centers. Neurologists can continue providing specialty consultation remotely throughout a patient’s hospitalization.
“Having another layer of expertise that we can work together with just makes everything better when you have a more complete team,” shared Dr. Matthew Gritters, Chief Medical Information Officer at Mahaska Health. “Our goal is to provide as much care locally as possible,
giving patients access to specialized neurological care while keeping them close to home whenever it’s appropriate.”
The partnership also expands outpatient neurology services and reintroduces EEG testing to the region. EEGs measure electrical activity in the brain and are commonly used to evaluate seizures and other neurological conditions. Previously, many patients had to travel outside the
area for this testing.
Outpatient telehealth physicians will work alongside Mahaska Health Neurology Nurse Practitioner Kelly Dawley, DNP, NP-C, AGPCNP, to care for patients with complex neurological conditions, including stroke, seizure disorders, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, chronic migraines, and other neurological concerns.
With expanded emergency, inpatient, and outpatient neurology services, Mahaska Health is helping more patients receive timely specialty care without leaving their community.
