Authorities conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a window tint violation, which led to an investigation involving suspected alcohol consumption and the presence of a firearm inside the vehicle.
On April 12 at approximately 9:24 a.m., the Department of Public Safety conducted a traffic stop on Highway T17 in Marion County for a window tint violation.
During the stop, authorities identified the driver as Nolan Moore, 23, of Centerville, using an Iowa driver’s license.
According to court documents, officers observed sealed Busch Light beer in the center console of the vehicle. Moore stated that he had been drinking until approximately midnight on April 12.
The criminal complaint also notes that Moore informed officers he had a handgun in the driver’s side door compartment. Law enforcement later located a Glock 23 handgun in that location.
Moore was asked to sit in the front seat of a patrol vehicle. While speaking with him, officers reported detecting the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. Moore agreed to and participated in standardized field sobriety testing. Officers noted that he displayed multiple indicators of impairment.
He was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Marion County Jail. He was later released on a $2,000 cash/surety bond.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 21.
Moore is charged with Operating While Under the Influence, first offense, a serious misdemeanor, and Possession or Carrying of Dangerous Weapons While Under the Influence, also a serious misdemeanor.
