An Ottumwa man is behind bars after police say he stabbed a man in the back during a Wednesday morning altercation.

Larry Collett, 49, was charged with willful injury – causing bodily injury and going armed with intent, both Class D felonies.

At approximately 9:40 AM, court records say Collett and an unidentified male were involved in a verbal argument on East Main Street in Ottumwa. According to authorities, the man walked away from Collett who was armed with a knife.

Collett is accused of stabbing the individual in the back, causing a puncture wound and requiring the victim to go to the hospital. The victim’s status is unknown.

Collett was arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. Court records did not show a bond amount at the time of publication.
