Authorities responded to a reported domestic assault late Thursday morning in Knoxville.
According to law enforcement, officers with the Knoxville Police Department were dispatched around 11:16 a.m. on April 11 to a residence in the 300 block of South 3rd Street. Before officers arrived, the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Brandon Galvin of Knoxville, had already left the scene in a vehicle.
When officers made contact with the victim at the residence, court documents say she had visible injuries, including a bloody nose, and appeared highly emotional.
Investigators report the incident stemmed from an argument that had been ongoing throughout the day. The dispute escalated after Galvin returned home and was unable to find his cigarettes. The victim allegedly told him to look for them himself, which intensified the confrontation.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim attempted to leave the home with her purse when Galvin pushed her into a reclining chair and struck her multiple times in the face and head with a closed fist.
An arrest warrant for Galvin was served on April 13. A no-contact order was later issued on April 15.
Galvin is currently being held in the Marion County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for April 24.
He is charged with domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness, a first offense serious misdemeanor.
