The national Education Writers Association has announced that Iowa Capital Dispatch reporter Brooklyn Draisey will join its 21st class of EWA Reporting Fellows.
The fellowship will provide $8,000 for completion of a reporting project related to higher education.
EWA’s competitive fellowships are “part of the organization’s drive to support enterprise journalism that informs the public about consequential issues in education,” according to an association news release.
Draisey joined Iowa Capital Dispatch in July 2023 to cover higher education as a corps member with Report for America, a national service organization. She won first place for coverage of education in the 2025 Iowa Better Newspaper Contests presented Thursday by the Iowa Newspaper Association.
Draisey, a 2021 University of Iowa graduate, has previously worked at the Quad-City Times and Cedar Rapids Gazette.
