Pella emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Washington and Hazel Streets on Wednesday evening. The crash occurred shortly before 7 p.m. and resulted in significant damage to both vehicles and a nearby stop sign.

According to Pella Police, a white Toyota Prius heading east reportedly failed to stop at the intersection and collided with a red Chevrolet Silverado. The driver of the Prius, identified as 43-year-old Valentine Gingerich of Columbia, Missouri, was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities reported that Gingerich showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tests administered at the scene. A subsequent breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration of 0.224 percent—nearly three times the legal limit.

Gingerich was taken into custody and charged with operating while intoxicated, first offense.

No injuries were reported.
