The Fairfield girls tennis team continued their remarkable undefeated season with a dominant 9-0 sweep of Mount Pleasant in a rescheduled conference match that had been postponed earlier in the season. The victory improves the Trojans to an impressive 6-0 overall record and 4-0 in conference play.

This marks the 2nd consecutive 9-0 shutout for Fairfield this week, following their commanding victory over Davis County on Monday. What makes Tuesday’s performance even more noteworthy is that the Trojans achieved this sweep despite having 2 regular starters out of the lineup, showcasing the incredible depth of their program.

The absence of key players provided an opportunity for others to shine, and they delivered in spectacular fashion. Soumya Mallick and Alexis Eisenbraun both made their 1st varsity starts of their high school careers, and both contributed to the team victory with impressive performances.

The Trojans showcased their depth and talent across all 6 singles matches. Poojita Mukadam set the tone with a convincing 8-1 victory over Lila Cook, while Ria Ross and Sriya Yammanur delivered flawless performances with identical 8-0 shutouts against Mia Gray and Katana Phangchanthong respectively. Faeven Gebremariam continued the dominant theme, blanking Bella Dodds 8-0 in another impressive showing. Tula Sorflaten faced good competition and prevailed 8-5 over Lianah Phangchanthong in an entertaining battle. The highlight of the singles competition came from Soumya Mallick, who marked her varsity debut with a hard-fought 8-6 victory over Shaye Barbee, demonstrating the poise and skill that earned her the opportunity to step into the starting lineup.

The doubles competition proved equally dominant for Fairfield, with all 3 pairs claiming decisive victories that showcased the team’s chemistry and tactical prowess. The tandem of Ross and Yammanur delivered a stunning 8-0 shutout against Cook and Dodds, combining their singles dominance into a seamless doubles partnership. Mukadam and Gebremariam followed suit with another perfect 8-0 performance against the Mount Pleasant duo of K. Phangchanthong and Gray, never allowing their opponents to find any rhythm. The most compelling doubles match featured Sorflaten partnered with fellow first-time varsity starter Alexis Eisenbraun, who together battled to an 8-6 victory over L. Phangchanthong and Barbee.

The Trojans will look to extend their perfect records both overall and in conference play on Thursday, August 28, 2025, when they host the Chiefs of Keokuk for what promises to be an intriguing rematch at home. Fairfield delivered a decisive 9-0 sweep over Keokuk earlier this month when the teams met on the Chiefs’ home courts. Now, with the comfort of their home facility and the energy of their supporters, the Trojans will be looking to complete another statement victory.
