The 11th-ranked Pekin Panthers continued their perfect start to the season Friday night, rolling to a convincing 52-14 victory over Wapello to improve to 3-0. The loss dropped the Indians to 2-1, marking their 1st defeat of the young season.

Senior quarterback Riley Smith put on a masterful display of efficiency and versatility, leading the Panthers’ offensive attack from both the passing pocket and the running game. Smith completed a perfect 8-of-8 passes for 128 yards and 2 touchdowns while adding 75 rushing yards and 1 touchdown on 6 carries.

The senior signal-caller’s flawless passing performance showcased the Panthers’ balanced offensive attack and Smith’s improved command of the system. His dual-threat ability kept the Wapello defense off balance throughout the contest.

Senior running back Nolan Glick dominated on the ground, carrying the ball 21 times for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns. Glick’s punishing running style and big-play ability proved too much for the Indians’ defense to contain.

The 225-yard performance represents 1 of the top individual rushing efforts in the area this season and demonstrates the depth of Pekin’s offensive weapons.

Alijah Brock led the receiving attack with 3 catches for 74 yards and 1 touchdown, providing Smith with a reliable target in the passing game. Reed Lauderman hauled in 1 reception for 13 yards and 1 touchdown, while Henry Adam contributed 2 catches for 22 yards.

The balanced receiving production showed the Panthers’ ability to spread the ball around and utilize multiple offensive weapons effectively.

Pekin showed versatility in their scoring, successfully converting multiple 2-point attempts throughout the game. Smith converted 1 two-point attempt, while Glick powered in 2 two-point conversions. Adam also contributed 2 successful two-point conversions, demonstrating the Panthers’ confidence in their short-yardage situations.

The victory extends Pekin’s perfect start to the season and reinforces their ranking as the 11th-best team in Class A. The Panthers have now outscored their opponents by a significant margin through 3 games, showing both offensive firepower and defensive consistency.

The balanced offensive attack, led by Smith’s dual-threat ability and Glick’s ground dominance, has given opposing defenses multiple problems to solve. Meanwhile, the defense’s ability to create turnovers and limit scoring has provided a solid foundation for the team’s early success.
