Tonight, chaos unfolded on the Northside of Ottumwa as the fire department was called to respond to a fryer fire at the North Hy-Vee Fast and Fresh on North Court. While the Ottumwa Radio News Reporter was on site with the employees and fire department, employees reported that the fryer caught fire, triggering the smoke alarms and prompting an immediate evacuation of the store. The fire department asked the employee’s and customers to wait outside until they gave the all clear.
Just a short time later, around ten minutes after the fire call, a car accident occurred on the frontage road in front of Godfrey’s Ale House. Authorities are currently addressing the aftermath of both situations.
Both incidents occurred around 8:00pm
