As authorities investigate alleged vandalism committed during school hours by a student at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont High School on Tuesday, court records show the same student is accused of injuring a staff member at the school last month.
The 18-year-old student has been charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, related to an incident on September 12 and has pleaded not guilty. Court records indicate the student is accused of throwing a chair that hit the knee of an EBF staff member at about 4:00 PM that day. The staffer later complained of swelling and bruising around the knee. An attorney has been appointed to represent the student in this case.
As Ottumwa Radio reported on Wednesday, the same student allegedly assaulted other students, smashed windows, and discharged a fire extinguisher resulting the hospitalization of multiple people after breathing in the extinguishing agent. Wapello County Sheriff Don Phillips says Tuesday’s incident is still under investigation.
