Norman Eugene Forgy, 98, of Ottumwa, died at 9:45 p.m. September 9, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society – Ottumwa.
He was born February 12, 1927 in rural Marion County to Albert and Myrta Hughes Forgy. He married Elizabeth A. “Beth” Comstock December 31, 1949 and she preceded him in death November 2, 2012.
A 1945 graduate of Albia High School, Norman served in the US Army and was stationed in South Korea prior to the Korean Conflict. Returning from Korea, Norman worked for Forgy Produce in Albia and for the Albia and Fairfield newspapers. He then worked 31 years for the Ottumwa Courier, retiring in 1989.
Norman was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Surviving are three sons, Mike (Liz) Forgy of Rapid City, SD, Tim (Marty) Forgy of Columbia, MO and Tom (Judy) Forgy of Beaverton, OR; three daughters, Terri (Roger) Frimml of Ottumwa, Angela Bradley of Ames and Becky (Bryan) Richardson of Boulder, CO; 14 grandchildren, Jason Forgy, Lucas Forgy, Dennis Forgy, Andy Forgy, Ellyn Williams, Stephanie Hernandez, Christopher Forgy, Nellie Frimml, Emma Frimml, Ida Frimml, Spencer Bradley, Morgan Bradley, Taylor Bradley and Kate Richardson; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Dennis Forgy; brothers, Harlan Forgy, Cameron Forgy, Herman Forgy and Claude Forgy; and a grandson, Aaron Forgy.
Visitation will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday September 14th at Reece Funeral Home. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday followed by his family present to greet friends until 4 p.m.
Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Monday September 15th at St. Patrick Catholic Church, a part of St. Joseph Parish, with Father Isaac Doucette presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Albia.
Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Altar and Rosary.
