Mary Catherine Reinier, affectionately known as Cathy, was born on the 24th of February, 1954, in Bloomfield, Iowa to Bert and Mary (Howell) Kirk.
She passed away on the 30th of August, 2025. She was a woman of strength and independence, known for her hardworking nature and dedication to her family and community. Her journey of life, 71 years filled with love, care, hard work, and resilience, has left a permanent mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. Mary was not just a semi driver for Dickey Transport; she was a pillar of her community who found joy in nurturing life. She had a great love for animals, providing care for cats, dogs, and any stray that happened to find its way to her. Her passion for life extended to her garden, where she particularly enjoyed cultivating vegetables. Fishing and mushroom hunting were two of her favorite pastimes, activities that immersed her in nature’s embrace. In the quiet moments of her life, Mary found solace in crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that reflected her innate creativity and precision. Above all, Mary’s heart held a special place for her children and grandchildren. Each relationship was unique, each bond special. She was not just a mother and grandmother; she was a friend, counsel, and an unwavering source of love and support. Her dedication to her family was a testament of her incredible love and selflessness.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Reinier, Travis (Shawnna) Reinier, Shane Reinier; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one brother, Joe (Mary) Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Mary Kirk; one granddaughter, Samantha Reinier, three brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 9-11 a.m., with a funeral service being held at 11:00 a.m., at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa. Interment will follow services in Taylor Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the family and will be directed at a later date.
