James Michael “Mike” Parks, age 73 of Melrose, IA passed away in the comfort of his home on Thursday August 7, 2025 after a very fiercely and courageously fought, esoteric battle with cancer.
Mike was born September 14, 1951 to Walter Carlin Parks and Betty Ann Parks. He was united in marriage to Patricia Sue “Pat” Martin on August 10, 1978. Mike was a family man—he took pride in his strong work ethic and providing for all those he cared for throughout his lifetime. He began his life-long career with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier in Davenport, IA at 19 years old. After later meeting his wife Patricia and moving to Melrose, IA, Mike transferred to the Ottumwa Post Office where he eventually retired from, after 41 years of dedicated and faithful service.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, a passion shared with him at a young age by his late father, inspired by the bond and many fond memories they shared together.
Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Parks; sons, Craig Goldermann, and Curt (Susan) Goldermann; daughters, Jennifer Parks and Julie Parks, and Judy Goldermann (like a daughter); grandchildren, Harlee Goldermann, Greg Parks, Hannah Muller, and Coby Lemaster; brother, John (Teri) Parks. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Betty Parks; an infant brother, William Patrick Parks; and his beloved aunt, Joann Wasko.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 from 9-11 am where family will be present to receive friends wishing to pay their respects. A private funeral service for the family will be held at Sinnott Funeral Home, 2030 IA-5, Albia, IA 52531. Interment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 2325 520th Ave., Melrose, Iowa, 52569.
