Dale Henry McFarland, a cherished pillar of the Albia, Iowa community, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 3, 1953, in Albia, Iowa to Charles Henry and Faye Ruth (Kenton) McFarland. Dale lived a life steeped in the soil of his beloved hometown, nurturing both land and family with steadfast dedication. His life was a testament to the dignified simplicity and profound beauty of a life lived close to the earth.
Dale married Susan Clark on October 16, 1988. He was a farmer by both trade and passion, a vocation that he embraced wholeheartedly throughout his life. His early years were interspersed with stints in coal mining, and later, he also worked for Carter Miller Sanitation, yet farming remained a constant thread woven into the fabric of his existence. His deft hands and keen mind were adept at working and fixing equipment, a skill he honed over the years, making him a reliable fix-it man around the farm. Dale’s love for farming was not a solitary pursuit; it was a family operation that included his children and grandchildren, making each day on the farm a cherished time together. Outside of his work, Dale’s hobbies were simple and wholesome. He enjoyed watching country westerns and attending and watching tractor shows, the latter a testament to his deep-rooted love for the land and its tools. However, what mattered most to Dale was not the land he tilled or the crops he harvested, but the family he nurtured alongside them. His life was a testament to the values of hard work, dedication, and the unshakeable bond of family.
He is survived by his wife, Susan McFarland; three daughters, Melinda Wireman and Kevin Paris, Michele Underwood, Marilyn Lloyd; grandchildren, Krystia Underwood and Jacoby Ballanger, Kenneth Wireman, Zachary Underwood, Jeffrey Underwood and Jazmine Lewis, Kayleah (Jesse) Knowles, Tyler Phillips, Cora (Tyson) Gooden, Nunzio Lloyd Jr., Caden Lloyd and Zoe Coffey; great grandchildren, Arabella, Tatyn, Ambrose, Ryder, Aubrey, Adalynn, Alivia, Slater, Raylin, Lavinia, and Hadley, one sister, Wanda (William) Pollitt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Fay McFarland; sister, Ruth Jean McFarland.
His legacy will forever be etched into the soil of Albia, in the hearts of his loved ones, and in the countless lives he touched during his time with us.
