Drivers along Highway 30 witnessed a dramatic scene Saturday afternoon as a semi-truck barreled through multiple counties with law enforcement in pursuit. What began in Benton County ended in Tama County, where officers from several agencies finally brought the chase to a safe stop.
Authorities say the semi was being driven recklessly when the pursuit began. Deputies attempted to pull the driver over, but instead of complying, the driver hit the gas—turning the situation into a multi-county chase.
Eventually, officers were able to safely stop the truck and arrest the driver. No one was hurt.
Investigators believe impairment may have played a role in the incident, though that hasn’t been confirmed. The driver’s name and possible charges haven’t been released yet.
While the outcome was safe, law enforcement stressed just how serious the situation could have been. A semi-truck loaded with cargo, speeding across counties and ignoring traffic laws, poses a real threat—not just to officers, but to anyone else on the road that day.
