Wayne Leo Martin, 73, of Ottumwa died at 2:55 p.m. March 31, 2025 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.
He was born September 24, 1951 in Ottumwa to William Leo and Vera Ellen Fenton Martin. Wayne married Shannon Marie Force November 22, 1980.
A resident of Ottumwa all his life, Wayne graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1971. He had worked 7 years for Martin Machine and Electric after inheriting the business from his father. He then worked 15 years at Hormel and 15 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 2016.
Wayne had attended Wesley United Methodist Church. He was a Past Master of Ottumwa Masonic Lodge #16 A.F.& A.M. He was the president of Ottumwa Shrine Club for 10 years and drove the Shrine van for the Shriners Hospital. Wayne enjoyed participating in parades, travelling with his dad and collecting rocks. He also enjoyed coin collecting, grilling, spending time with family especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Shannon; 3 children, Heather (Matt) Brown of Hedrick, Michael Martin and Kaci (Robert) Carnes both of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren, Zach, Shane, Makena, Gavyn, Wyatt, Shaylyn, Izaac, Rosalee, Taylor and Dacota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Albert Martin; a half-brother, Larry Shankster; and father-in-law, Dennis Force.
Funeral services with Masonic services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 7th at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Blakesburg Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends one hour prior to the service Monday.
Memorials may be made to the family or Ottumwa Shrine Club.
