Barbara Alice Wemer, 94, of Ottumwa, died at 4:00 a.m. April 2, 2025 at Vista Woods Care Center.
She was born November 20, 1930 in Ottumwa to Arthur E. and Pearl E. Peck Short. She married Richard C. Wemer May 7, 1955 and he preceded her in death June 3, 2011.
Graduating from Ottumwa Beauty Academy, she worked as a beautician and later became an instructor. Barb was a hairdresser for Reece Funeral Home for over 50 years, starting in 1968.
Barb had attended Zion Community Church of God and was a volunteer for Hospice Serving Davis and Wapello Counties.
Surviving are six children, Cyndi Page, of Ottumwa, Debe Caramazza, of Green Bay, WI, Ken Caramazza, Rick Wemer, Raela Baird and Bryce Wemer all of Ottumwa; a foster son, Mike Christner of Pompano Beach, FL; grandchildren, Kim, Trent, Angie, Heather, Tim, Wade, Alisha, Hawkeye, Tricia, Amanda, Tasmann, Holly, Yogi, Amanda, Scott, Jared, Tosha, Greg and Heidi; great-grandchildren, Katelin, Tony, Anabelle, Candice, Gilbert Jr., Sarena, Ryanne, Hillary, Samantha, Marcus, Mara, Logan, Lauren, Mia, Anthony, Arianna, Sage, Akeem, Kiemonta, Tre, Melanie, Ariel, Aaron, Gesielle, Houston, Jasmine, T, Emma, Bailey, Ana, Charlee, Dalice, Ellee, Shelton, Katie, Nick and Taylor; great-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Peter, Landyn, Jozlynn, Cooper, Porter, Lily, Harmony, Lincoln, Rosemary, Aliaha, Kadea, Kaylii, Marcus, Michael, James, Andrew, Tygher, Manny and Vivian; 2 bonus grandchildren, Ricky Stagers and Dannee Mallonee; sisters, Cheryl Covert of Ottumwa and Neila (Maurice) Overturf of Republic, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 daughters, Coy Rae and Lynn Wemer; a great-great grandson, Cardon; 3 brothers, Gary Short, Bob Short and Kenneth Pelham; and a sister, Marjorie Dodd.
Visitation will be open at 1 p.m. Friday, April 4th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5th at Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery.
