Richard L. Oakes, 87, of Ottumwa, died at 7:25 p.m. April 5, 2025 at Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa.
He was born January 23, 1938 in Bloomfield to Harvey Washington and Hattie Margret Bradbury Oakes. Richard married Judy Clark on November 3, 1956 and she preceded him in death on November 15, 2022.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving 6 years in the Naval Reserves. He had been a manager at Red Lobster.
Richard had been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Randy) Hultman of South Carolina, Rebecca Sue (Joe) Navarro and Belinda K. Gentle both of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lloyd E. Oakes and Franklin L. Oakes and a sister, Florence Oakes Daugherty.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be Saturday, May 3rd, at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating.
Inurnment will be in McCormick Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
