Jerry Lee Reed, 82, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025 in West Des Moines, Iowa at his home.
He was the son of William and Ruby Lincoln Reed of Grinnell, Iowa. Born in Grinnell, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and trapping in his younger years. He developed a passion for working out, running and cycling. He often told acquaintances he was a “gym rat”. He never knew a stranger. He graduated from Grinnell High School and retired at age 65 after working for CertainTeed Manufacturing for several years.
Jerry served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged as a corpsman.
He was proudly married to his devoted wife Rita, and they shared a thirty-two year loving relationship. He had two children, Vanessa and Austin Reed; three grandchildren, Elijah, Silas, and Zoey; along with two step-grandsons, Logan and Tanner Reel. Also surviving is a brother, Gordon Reed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Larry Reed, Joyce Penny, Janet Strand, Dennis Reed and Linda Rice.
His body has been cremated.
Graveside services and inurnment will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12th at Shaul Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
A celebration of life will be held after the service for family and close friends.
