Pritpal Griffith, born Pritpal Grewal on Jan 2, 1944 in Nairobi, Kenya, passed away peacefully under hospice care at home on February 20, 2025. As were her wishes, cremation has taken place. A time to celebrate her life and share stories with the family will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Cranston Family Funeral Home in Fairfield, IA. Pritpal lived a long and happy life with her husband John William Griffith for the last 52 years. Before her marriage, she attended Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada, where she studied Art History. She traveled to Ireland for a vacation and stayed at Mrs. Wallace (John’s Grandmother’s) Old Head Hotel where she met John. They married and lived in Co. Limerick, Ireland in Shannon Grove house with their two children, Kieran and Shivaun. Later they decided to take a trip around the world and settled in England, next in Ireland, and finally in Fairfield, Iowa in the United States, which she has made her home for the past 34 years.
Growing up in Africa, Pritpal’s home bordered the Nairobi National Park, where she was familiar with the sights of buffalo, lions, giraffes, and the beautiful landscapes of the area. She had a special connection with nature, mainly admiring the beauty of flowers and birds, the vivid colors and lingering sweet smells. She held a love for freesias, a fragrant species of flowers known for their incredible array of colors. Symbolizing friendship, thoughtfulness, and trust, this flower fit perfectly with Pritpal’s spirit. Pritpal dedicated her life to finding spiritual answers and uncovering the meaning of life. She made many great friends who brought her experiences around the world, experiences that she has valued and cherished her entire life.
Pritpal brought a sense of light and kindness to all that knew her, always wishing to spread love to the people around her. She prioritized her family and grandchildren, all who loved her. Her big heart, and spiritualness made her into a person who was important to so many people. The lives of her friends and family that have been impacted by her, will hold the experiences and wisdom she gave them close to their hearts. For Pritpal, it was never too early to arise and catch the first rays of the morning light, appreciating the end of the peaceful night as it met with the radiant colors of the sun. She held an appreciation for beauty in life—the beauty in those who are kind, the beauty in art, and the beauty of earth’s gifts. She especially carried a deep love for the beauty and innocence of babies; she could never turn down a chance to care for a little one, especially her grandchildren.
Pritpal has been survived by her loving husband John, her two children Kieran and Shivaun, and her three grandchildren. She lived fully and happily, passing at peace and surrounded by family. Pritpal will be forever missed and cherished in the hearts of all that knew her.
