In a surprising Sunday night announcement, President Trump declared on Truth Social that conservative commentator and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino will serve as the new Deputy Director of the FBI.

“Great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice! Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel,” the president proclaimed in his post. “Working with our great new United States Attorney General, Pam Bondi, and Director Patel, Fairness, Justice, Law and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly. Congratulations Dan!”

Bongino, known for hosting “The Dan Bongino Show” radio program and podcast, previously anchoring Fox News’ Saturday night program “Unfiltered” before parting ways with the network in 2023, responded to the appointment on X, saying, “Thank you Mr. President, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel.”

The appointment comes on the heels of Director Kash Patel’s recent swearing-in to a 10-year term as FBI Director following a contentious 51-49 Senate confirmation vote. Patel, who had been openly critical of the agency in recent months, is expected to work closely with Bongino to reshape the bureau’s priorities.

In November 2024, CNN and other media outlets said Bongino was rumored to be a candidate to lead the Secret Service.

Bongino anchors 12-3pm (ET) on Cumulus Media’s Westwood One and hosts “The Dan Bongino Show Podcast” on the Cumulus Podcast Network. A second podcast the “Bongino Report Early Edition” is hosted by journalist and culture analyst Evita Duffy-Alfonso

“We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dan Bongino on his decision to take on the role of Deputy Director of the FBI,” a statement from Cumulus Media/Westwood One read. “Dan has entertained and informed tens of millions of listeners every day and we are grateful for our successful partnership. We look forward to welcoming Dan back in the future.”

Bongino’s final show is scheduled for Friday, March 14.
