National School Breakfast Week Campaign Encourages Students to Try School Breakfast.

To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available with school
breakfast, Ottumwa Community Schools will celebrate National School Breakfast Week (NSBW)
from March 3-7, 2025.

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy
breakfast.

Fortunately, Ottumwa Schools offer nutritious school breakfasts, complete with fruit
and low-fat or fat-free milk, to ensure students are fueled for learning. Hot and cold meal options
are offered every day to set our students up for success in the classroom.

The 2025 NSBW campaign theme, “Clue in to School Lunch,” reminds the entire school
community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students.
Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:
● Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
● Score higher on standardized tests
● Have better concentration and memory
● Be more alert
● Maintain a healthy weight

“A healthy breakfast at the start of the day is a great way to ensure students are nourished and
ready to learn,” said Yvonne Johnson, Director of Food & Nutrition Services for Ottumwa
Community Schools “National School Breakfast Week helps us educate and encourage parents
and students to learn about and enjoy all the nutritious and delicious choices we offer.”

Schools open at 7:30 am every school day and our food service staff are fully prepared and
ready for your student to start their day with a full tummy and an awakened mind with school
breakfast! See you in the school cafeteria! School nutrition professionals encourage families to
“Clue In” and give school breakfast a try. Seek the clues in the cafeteria and you will be
pleasantly surprised on what your child has been missing.
