Multiple Storm Rounds Expected Across Iowa

The National Weather Service in Des Moines is warning Iowans to stay weather-aware as several rounds of thunderstorms move across the state.

Storms are possible this morning, with additional rounds expected tonight and continuing into the coming days. Forecasters say some storms could become severe, with damaging weather possible in addition to locally heavy rainfall.

Much of Iowa could be affected, and repeated rounds of rain may increase the potential for flash flooding, especially in areas that receive multiple rounds of thunderstorms.

Residents are encouraged to keep an eye on updated forecasts and be prepared to take shelter if severe weather develops. Drivers should also use extra caution if heavy rain reduces visibility or creates flooded roadways.

The latest National Weather Service briefing is available at weather.gov/dmx/DssPacket.pdf.

Additional information on severe storms is available from the Des Moines National Weather Service, while flooding and hydrology information can be found at the NWS hydrology page.
