Monday night’s city council meeting began with Mayor Connie Boyer swearing in two new officers to the Fairfield Police Department.
Patrol Officer Terry Smith is from Georgia and previously served in the Richmond County Sheriff’s Department. He also served in the Marion (Iowa) Police Department before taking a hiatus. He told the city council that he’s happy to be back in law enforcement and looking forward to serving the citizens of Fairfield.
Patrol Officer Sawyer Mast is a native of Fairfield and a member of the Iowa National Guard.
After the city council approved the consent agenda, Ed Malloy, Executive Director of Grow Fairfield, gave his annual report. Malloy shared the organization’s vision.
“Grow Fairfield has been a catalyst for unprecedented local development, investment, and talent attraction in our community, 2025 to 2030. This has been a period of renewed and new-found levels of community pride, entrepreneurship, and neighborhood development. We have embraced that we are competing on behalf of our shared future and have transformed Fairfield into a jewel of the Midwest.”
Malloy also went over Grow Fairfield’s mission, goals, and housing initiative.
The council approved using $1,750 in LOST funds to assist in the dual outdoor cleanout at the Carnegie Museum.
Additionally, council approved providing $5,084.64 of financial support for the 2026 fiscal year for Area 15 Regional Planning Commission, $2,431 of financial support for the 2026 fiscal year for Regional Planning Affiliation and agreed to a contract with Waste Management.
Fairfield’s next city council meeting will be held on February 10.
