William Scott Pierce, 66, of Marion and formerly of Ottumwa, died at 11:07 a.m. January 28, 2025 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
He was born October 16, 1958 in Ottumwa to William Walter Pierce Jr. and Marilyn Joan Carr Pierce. He married Janice Marie Cain on May 5, 1995.
A 1976 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Scott worked at the movie theater for one day, deciding that was not for him. He worked alongside his father, at Pierce Home Improvement, later owning and operating the business as the name changed to Pierce Construction in the 1980’s. As Scott changed the company to Pierce Fencing, he became co-owner and worked alongside his son, Jerred, until retiring in 2019. He has also owned and operated the Canteen Lunch in the Alley since 2015.
He had attended New Life Community Church in Marion and had attended The Bridge Church in Ottumwa with whom he traveled with on three mission trips to Mexico, helping build new homes. He was always an animal lover, volunteering at the veterinary clinic at a younger age and had adopted several stray dogs throughout the years. Most importantly, he loved his family deeply.
Surviving is his wife, Jan; their children, Jerred (Lyndsey) Pierce of Ottumwa, Jasmine Montejo (Fredi Navarro-Ramos) of Norwalk, Stephanie Hanley of Monticello, Tony Hanley (Michelle Lamb) of Des Moines, Alisha (Kevin) Weber of Springville and Lindsey (Lance) Newland of Ottumwa; 21 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; a sister, Deb (Mike) Allman of Eddyville; a brother, Danny Pierce of Ottumwa; his mother-in-law, Leveda Cain; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joshua Pierce; and his father-in-law, Donald Cain.
Visitation will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday February 2nd at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, February 3rd at Reece Funeral Home with Pastors Phil Morrison and Marty Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
