On Tuesday night, multiple crews were dispatched to battle a fire on the 500 block of Church Street in Ottumwa.
Chief Sean Canto of the Ottumwa Fire Department tells Ottumwa Radio News the department received a call concerning a fire at 7:01 PM.
Canto says the fire originated on the second floor of a structure located at 529 Church Street. While multiple crews from the Ottumwa Fire Department were called to battle the blaze, Canto says the Eddyville Fire Department was contacted to handle other calls while Ottumwa firefighters were preoccupied with the fire. No other emergency calls were made during the fire, according to Canto.
Canto says no one was seriously injured but one firefighter was taken to the hospital to be evaluated but was later released.
The buildings adjacent to 529 Church Street sustained minor fire and smoke damage, according to Canto.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
