The Fairfield City Council held its meeting Monday night.
After approving the consent agenda, the floor was opened for public comments and Fairfield Public Library Director Alecs Mickunas spoke about the Sustainable Libraries Initiative which Mickunas says trains prospective libraries based on three principals: environmental sustainability, equity, and fiscal responsibility. According to Mickunas, the benefits of joining the initiative are improved efficiency, enhanced community reputation, and strengthened community engagement.
Ammon Taylor of Waste Management and the city council talked in length about an upcoming contract between Waste Management and the city of Fairfield. Waste Management proposed a monthly rate increase of five percent. After discussion, the council wanted the rate dropped to three and a half percent and requested some language changed in the contract in case the company felt it was necessary to increase rates (it will not occur without council approval). Taylor says he will have the contract rewritten and back in front of council for its meeting in December.
Christner Contracting was awarded the contract to work on the new building for the Fairfield Fire Department. The bid was just under $7.3 million.
The next city council meeting will be held on December 16.
