Two Ottumwa men face charges after a traffic stop with police.
18-year-old Dimitri Dieter was charged with possession or control of a firearm by a felon (Class D felony) and possession of marijuana – first offense (serious misdemeanor).
20-year-old Trenton Mull was charged with possession of marijuana – second offense and persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons, both serious misdemeanors.
On November 17 at 9:24 PM, court records say law enforcement stopped a vehicle on Osceola Street in Ottumwa due to an equipment issue. An officer noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the car.
Authorities conducted a probable cause search and a bag containing 25.6 grams of marijuana was found in the rear compartment in the backseat of the vehicle. A loaded 9mm handgun was also discovered in the backseat according to court documents. The criminal complaint states Dieter and Mull were passengers in the backseat of the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.
Dieter and Mull were arrested and transported to the Wapello County Jail. Both were freed after posting bond.
