Fire Destroys Ottumwa Home

A fire ripped through a home on the south side of Ottumwa Wednesday night.

According to the city of Ottumwa, firefighter crews from the Ottumwa Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 730 South Moore Street around 8:08 PM. The first fire engine arrived within three minutes of the alarm to find the house fully engulfed with flames coming through the roof.

The city says dispatch was asked to strike a second alarm to bring more firefighters to the scene. Both the Interim Fire Chief and Interim Deputy Chief assisted in battling the blaze. The firefighters dealt with high winds and it took three hours to extinguish the fire.

Officials say no one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced resident.

The fire remains under investigation.
