An Ottumwa man faces a litany of charges after investigators found a large amount of child pornography in his possession.
22-year-old Hunter Bresch was charged with 1,000 counts of possession of depictions of a minor engaged in a sex act, an aggravated misdemeanor, and sexual exploitation of a minor, a Class D felony.
Court records say Bresch submitted a tip to the FBI in November 2022 that someone sent him child sexual abuse materials over the internet. A subsequent investigation unveiled a file share account allegedly owned by Bresch that contained 16,000 files of children involved in sexual acts. Police say the majority of the files were videos that depicted different children.
Additionally, court documents allege Bresch attempted to purchase or trade illicit material. Authorities say Bresch sent a video depicting the abuse of a school-aged child to another internet user while attempting to trade for more child sexual abuse materials.
Bresch allegedly told law enforcement he provided the tip to the FBI because the other user scammed him and did not give him the illicit material that he paid for.
Bresch was arrested on Wednesday and is currently in the Wapello County Jail. His bail has been set at $100,000.
