The Sigourney City Council held its meeting Tuesday evening.
The council’s first action was to approve the consent agenda with the exceptions of the items that approved the city clerk financial reports for August 2024 and payroll expenses, miscellaneous expenses, ACH, and monthly transfers for August 2024.
Jenny Thompson, the Chairperson of the Christmas Festival in Sigourney said the date of the festival has been changed from December 14 to November 30. Planned activities for the festival include a one mile/5K ugly sweater walk or run, a cookie walk, a vendor fair, a wreath and tree auction, a lighted parade, and more.
Thompson says the decorations organizers have for the event are dated and falling apart. Thompson wants to start a fundraiser to raise funds for new decorations. Given the cost of the new decorations, the process may take years to complete.
The city council approved four community betterment requests. The first is to repair the umbrella at the Sigourney Pool. Second, the city will apply for a grant to replace the water dumping buckets at the Sigourney Pool. If the grant is denied, city funds will be used. Third, concrete will be poured at the batting cages at Legion Field. And finally, a fence was approved for the soccer/flag football field. The fence will be on the southeast corner of the field and prevent vehicles from driving on the field.
The council also approved policies for employee medical, vision, and dental benefits.
The next City Council meeting will be on October 16.
