A special tribute to a young girl’s memory is now part of the Ottumwa community.
The Greater Ottumwa Partners in Progress (GOPIP) Ambassadors held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday for a new Little Library located inside Ottumwa Primary Care at 1009 East Pennsylvania Avenue.
The project was inspired by the loss of Mazie Wilson, daughter of Erica and Ricky Wilson, who passed away on August 10, 2026.
Wanting to find a meaningful way to honor Mazie, a close friend of her mother, Ericka, came up with the idea of establishing a Little Library in her memory.
The library will give visitors an opportunity to enjoy reading through the simple act of taking a book or leaving one for someone else. What began as an idea to remember a little girl has now become a way to share books, encourage literacy, and bring something special to others.
The ribbon cutting marked more than the opening of a new community resource. It celebrated a heartfelt tribute created out of love and a desire to keep Mazie’s memory alive.
Through this Little Library, Mazie’s memory will continue to touch lives, one book at a time.
