A Centerville juvenile was arrested Friday afternoon after an alleged threat made towards a middle school.
Chief Tom Demry of the Centerville Police Department says an 11-year-old child was arrested and charged with threats of terrorism, a Class D felony.
At 1:00 PM, Demry says the police department received a report of threats of violence from the principal of Howar Middle School.
An investigation was launched and an arrest was made at 2:24 PM according to Demry.
Demry says the staff and administration of the Centerville Community School District assisted police with the investigation. Additionally, multiple students reported the threat to school faculty. It was later determined there was no immediate risk of harm to students or staff.
In a press release, Demry thanked the students and staff of Howar Middle School for their prompt response to the threat. He says law enforcement will always take threats towards a school seriously.
“The Police Department and School District take all threats seriously and will pursue charges when warranted. Our schools are intended to be a safe place for our children to learn and threats of violence will not be tolerated.”
