Dennis Dwayne Porter, 68, of Floris, Iowa passed away on September 19, 2024 surrounded by family at the Hospice House in Ottumwa, Iowa. He was born on August 26, 1956 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Emmett and Beverly Bridgeman Porter. He graduated from Davis County High School in 1975. On August 17, 1979 he married Robin Lynne Brooks in Ottumwa.
Dennis was a volunteer firefighter for 36 years on the Floris and Bloomfield Fire Departments and he spent many years on the fire and safety team for the Bloomfield and Oskaloosa race tracks. Dennis enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as watching NASCAR and local dirt track racing. Most of all, he enjoyed being able to help others whenever he could.
He is survived by his wife, Robin; two sons, David (Danielle) Brooks of Fairfield, Iowa, Steven Porter of Floris; daughter, Laura (Derek – who Dennis considered a son) Katzartones of Floris; six grandchildren, Michael and Zachary Brooks, Olivia and Lucas Porter, Riley and Gage Katzartones; two brothers, Don (Vicki Fosnacht) Porter of New Windsor, Illinois, Darrell Porter of Ottumwa; and a sister, Sarah (Dwight) Miller of Floris.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at the Wagler Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Gordon Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at the Floris Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday with the family present to greet friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to his family.
