James Robert Smith, 86, of Bloomfield died at 12:34 p.m. August 6, 2026 at his home.
He was born September 4, 1939 in Ottumwa to Donald G. and Marian Lousie Boyer Smith. Jim married Sandra Mae Locker October 19, 1962.
A 1957 graduate of Bloomfield High School, Jim served in the Iowa Army National Guard for 8 years. He worked 30 years in bailer testing at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1996.
Jim enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing.
Surviving is his wife, Sandy; their children, Lisa Rogers of Topeka, KS and Kert (Beverly) Smith of Bloomfield; 5 grandchildren, Latoya Lewis, Jesse (Lindsea) Lewis, Josh (Kim) Smith, Aleah (Keaton) Cofield and Alyssa Rogers; 11 great grandchildren, Devon, John, Tristen, Hailey, Allyson, Josie, Jessilyn, Caden, Lane, Leslie Jo and Jorri; 2 great-great grandchildren, Amelia and Elias; a sister, Linda Stark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Donna White.
His body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
