OPD: Man Threatened to Bludgeon Victim Protected by No Contact Order

An Ottumwa man is allegedly accused of threatening to bludgeon an individual with a no contact order against him.

52-year-old Robert Ekwall was charged with 1st degree harassment – threaten forcible felony, stalking – violation of protective order, interference with official acts, and violation of no contact/protective order-contempt.

On August 8, court records say Ekwall was in the yard of his residence and facing towards the victim’s residence. Authorities say Ekwall was swinging a baseball bat while threatening to bash in the head of the individual. According to the victim, Ekwall has sent verbal threats previous times. Officers arrived and Ekwall shut himself inside of a room in his residence and refused orders from the officers.

According to court records, Ekwall and the victim have a no contact order dated May 2024.

Ekwall was taken to the Wapello County Jail. He is being held with no bond pending a hearing with a magistrate judge.
