A convicted Ottumwa man faces charges after attempting to steal from a business he’s abstained from.
24-year-old Brain Anjain was charged with Theft – 3rd degree – enhanced because of 2 prior convictions – property not exceeding $750, Trespassing on the property of another – 1st offense, Public Intoxication – 1st offense.
On July 16, court records say Anjain entered a Casey’s on 1001 East Main Street with the intent to steal items. According to authorities, Anjain attempted to conceal a bottle of whiskey from the store on his person. The store clerk took the bottle out of Anjain’s possession and it was damaged. The bottle was valued at $17.99.
Police who responded to the situation say Anjain had watery and bloodshot eyes, delayed reactions, and an unsteady balance. Anain refused the Datamaster breath test and police arrested him.
On April 15, law enforcement had contacted Anjain about his abstain from entering the business. Anjain has been arrested multiple times since his warning.
According to court records, Anjain has previous convictions dating May 2021, November 2021, January 2022, August 2022, July 2023, and April 2024.
Anjain was transported to the Wapello County Jail. He was later released.
