An Ottumwa man faces charges after allegedly stealing from a residence and possessing drugs.
45-year-old Daniel Hamilton was charged with burglary – 3rd degree, possession of a controlled substance – marijuana plus one other, and theft – 5th degree.
On July 16, court records say Hamilton approached the victim’s unoccupied property with the intent to steal. Authorities say Hamilton took a gas can from the garage. Hamilton stole copper and piping from the back porch of the residence which was fenced off.
During the arrest, police found a tin container in Hamilton’s possession. Official personnel say Hamilton told them that he wanted to give it to a friend. Located inside of the container was a small baggie containing marijuana.
According to court records, Hamilton has a prior conviction on May 2022 for methamphetamine.
Hamilton was taken to the Wapello County Jail.
