Mary Ford


Mary Agnes Ford, age 93, of Ottumwa, Iowa died on June 28, 2024 at Vista Woods Care Center. She was born August 1, 1930 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Frank and Alice (Bolden) Vivian.

Mary married Richard Ford Sr. in Kansas City, Kansas. They later divorced. She graduated from Ottumwa High School and Indian Hills community college, where she earned an associate degree becoming an LPN. She worked at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, then relocated to Inglewood, California practicing nursing for 30+ years.

Mary was a devout Christian. She attended second Baptist Church. She participated in the foster grandparents program through the Ottumwa school system, and she was a member of the Genealogy Society and Wapello County Historical Society. She often gave speeches during Black History Month. She was an avid reader, painter, doll collector and an excellent cook.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Ford of Saint Paul, Minnesota; sister Juaneza “Cookie” Vivian; five nieces, Sheree (Mike) Long, Mary Carol Vivian, Wendy Thompson, Nicole (David) Heatherly, Monique Vivian; several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by a son Richard Ford Jr.; her parents, Frank and Alice Vivan; brothers Frank Jr., Sterling, Charles; sister, Joyce Vivian; stepfather Emerald Green, and sister-in-law, Etta Vivian.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 11 AM to 12 PM at Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa with a Graveside Service to follow in Ottumwa Cemetery with Reverend Jeff Hendred officiating at 12:30 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
