An Ottumwa man was arrested on Thursday based on accusations of extensive sexual abuse with a juvenile victim.
39-year-old Michael Sherwood has been charged with three counts of second-degree sex abuse (Class B felony), three counts of third-degree sexual abuse (Class C felony), distribution of a Schedule I controlled substance to a person under age 18 (Class B felony), lascivious acts with a child (Class D felony), and indecent exposure (aggravated misdemeanor).
The Ottumwa Police Department says it launched an investigation on March 1 after a juvenile reported being assaulted over an extended period.
Sherwood was arrested on March 28 at his home.
Sherwood is currently in the Wapello County Jail without bond.
